Scanning a BigCommerce order with Pickscan

End-to-end operator flow for picking, scanning, and packing a BigCommerce order.

Before you start

  • The Pickscan app is installed on your Android device and connected to your store. See Installing the Pickscan Android app.
  • You know your 4-digit user PIN.
  • At least one BigCommerce order is ready to pick (paid, not yet shipped).

Picking on the device

  1. Open the Pickscan app on your Android device.
  2. Log in with your 4-digit PIN.
  3. On the Picking screen you'll see either a list of available batches (if batch picking is enabled) or a list of individual orders.
  4. Tap a batch or order to start picking. The item is locked to your device so no other operator can pick it at the same time.
  5. Work through the items one by one. For each item:
    • Find the item in the warehouse.
    • Scan the barcode on the product using your device's camera or an attached hardware scanner.
    • The item turns blue while you're scanning it, and green once all units in that line are collected.
  6. When every item has been scanned, the batch or order moves to the packing stage.

Packing

Packing happens at the packing station — a browser window opened on a computer at your pack bench.

  1. The packer opens the packing URL and scans the tote barcode (for batch picks) or the order barcode (for single orders).
  2. Pickscan displays the items to pack into the shipment.
  3. The packer confirms each item and prints the label via BigCommerce's standard shipping flow.
  4. Pickscan marks the order as shipped in BigCommerce automatically once packing is complete.

See Configuring your packing station for how to set up the URL and IP whitelist.

Visual feedback cheatsheet

  • Grey — Item not yet scanned.
  • Blue — Item being scanned (partial quantity).
  • Green — Item fully scanned; line complete.
  • Red — Wrong barcode or too many scans for this line.

Troubleshooting

The scanner is rejecting a valid barcode. Check the barcode is associated with the SKU in BigCommerce. The barcode you scan must match the product's barcode or an alternate SKU.

An order isn't appearing on the device. Orders only appear in Pickscan once they're paid. Check the order status in BigCommerce. If batch picking is enabled, the order may be waiting for the next batch generation — tap Regenerate batches in the embedded admin app to refresh immediately.

The device shows "Not connected." The device code has expired or the device has been removed from the admin. Reconnect by entering a new device code from the Pickscan admin.
